35-LightSense

The performance uses generative algorithms and real time manipulation of sensors to sculpt the space through light and sounds, providing a renewed take on the magic of feedback loops. With a reminiscence of the battle between light and shadow that yields as its products form and meaning, the architecture of nested loops allows the audiovisual system to be endlessly generative.
The system is triggered by the performer via an instrument working on light sensors that samples data of light-shadow proportion and feeds them to a sound generator based on Pure Data application. The application feeds the sound data forward to a vvvv video mapping tool, which generates the image that is projected in the space. The internal connectivity of stimuli and responses in real time, allows the audience to be drawn into the emergent mesmerizing effect.

SHAUL TZEMACH, lives and works in Tel Aviv. MFA Bezalel graduate in fine art. He teaches interactive art at Kibbutzim College, and is specialized in 3D animation. Began his career in the plastic arts and continued to the areas of new media, kinetic art, real time generative art and interactive. Over the last years he focused in video mapping and 3D projection. His works are characterized by multiplicity of layering, chaos and complexity. [PORTFOLIO]
